Chavan, the then Chief Minister of the Government of Bombay, inaugurated this college in the Convocation Hall of Nagpur University. The college was named Nagpur Veterinary College, following the example of Bombay Veterinary College. Initially, the Departments of Anatomy, Physiology, and Animal Husbandry were established, and then other departments were introduced in phases. In 1968, the college became affiliated with Nagpur University, and the administrative control was held by the state department of Animal Husbandry.
