History Of the Department
The Department of Veterinary Biochemistry at Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur came into existence as a full-fledged separate department in the year 2003. Previously, the subject was combined with Veterinary Physiology as “Veterinary Physiology & Biochemistry”. At present, specialized staff is available in the Department of Vety. Biochemistry, which is pursuing under-graduate programme as well as offering the PG courses as minor subject to the students of other departments of the college. It also offers the PG course of the Biotechnology subject as major course.
Apart from the above academic activities, the department provides support to the TVCC for diagnostic biochemistry and other departments for trainings offered to LDOs and LSS. The department also participates in the Animal Health Camps for aiding in the diagnosis in-field conditions using qualitative biochemical tests.

1) Flame Photometer.
2) UV-VIS Spectrophotometer.
3) Thin Layer Chromatography.
4) SDS-PAGE Apparatus.
5) Photo electric Colorimeter.
6) Spectronic-20 (Visible range Spectrophotometer).
7) Circulating Water-bath.
8) Refractometer.
9) Hot air oven.
10) Monopan Weighing Balances:
- 1 mg – 50 gm range
- 0.1 mg – 99 gm range
11) Cell Culture Facility
- CO2 Incubator.
- Inverted Phase Contrast Microscope.
- Centrifuge machine: up to 17000 rpm.
- Water bath with Shaker.
- Vortex Mixer.
- Monopan Weighing Balances: 0.01 mg – 99 gm.
- Laminar Flow work bench.

- Dr. Sachin W. Bonde, I/C Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Biochemistry, Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur has received Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Life Time Achievement National Award on dated 18th August 2018 at Bengaluru from International institute for social and economic reforms (R), Bengaluru for distinguished contributions to the development of the Nation and achieving outstanding excellence in the field of Teaching, Research and Publication.

- Delivered the lectures by the faculty in the trainings organised by the Department of Extension, NVC, MAFSU Nagpur entitled “Shelyanchya khadyat khanij mishranache mahatva”
- Participation and representation in 8th Agrovision Exhibition – 2016 organized by Agriculture and Animal Husbandry
